The bill would amend the Public Health Code to allow a pharmacist to dispense additional quantities of a prescription drug up to the amount authorized on an original prescription.

Specifically, a pharmacist could dispense, at one time, additional quantities of a prescription drug up to the total number of dosage units authorized by the prescriber on the original prescription and any refills on the prescription, not exceeding a 90-day supply. Except for a Schedule 5 controlled substance that did not contain an opioid, this provision would not apply to a prescription for a controlled substance.

The bill would take effect 90 days after its enactment.
