MINOR IN VOTING BOOTH S.B. 98 (S-1): FLOOR ANALYSIS
Senate Bill 98 (Substitute S-1 as reported) Sponsor: Senator Dianne Byrum Committee: Government Operations
The bill would amend the Michigan Election Law to specify that a minor could accompany an elector in the booth or voting compartment at an election.
Currently, under the Election Law, if a voter exposes his or her ballot to another person (other than a person who is lawfully assisting the voter), the voter has forfeited his or her right to vote in the election and the ballot must be rejected. The bill provides that these restrictions would not apply to a voter who exposed his or her ballot to a minor who was accompanying the voter in the voting booth.
