A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6156 AS INTRODUCED 9-22-98

Under the Michigan Vehicle Code, a driver is required to take whatever precautions are necessary to avoid accident or injury when approaching any crosswalk where a person is using a wheelchair or any device that aids walking. A person who violates this provision is guilty of a misdemeanor. House Bill 6156 would amend the code to specify that the misdemeanor would be punishable by imprisonment for not more than six months, a fine of not more than $500, or both.
