CONTENT
The bill would amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to prohibit an employer that was a political subdivision, from interfering with the residency choices of an employee or applicant by requiring the employee or applicant to reside within the political subdivision as a condition of employment or promotion. This provision would not apply to the employment of an individual that resulted from his or her election to public office.
The Act defines "political subdivision" as a county, city, village, township, school district, or special district or authority of the State.
