Schroer, Wallace, Baird, Cherry, Profit, Mans, Dobronski, Wetters, McBryde, Johnson, McManus, Gire, Gubow, Martinez, Freeman, Wojno, Prusi, Bogardus, DeHart, Goschka, Scott, Varga, LaForge, Willard, Brater, Anthony, Hale and Gilmer and referred to the Committee on Colleges and Universities.


        A bill to amend 1986 PA 303, entitled

   "An act to establish a Michigan work-study program for qualified
   resident students attending eligible graduate and professional
   graduate schools and employed by qualified employers; to pre-
   scribe the powers and duties of certain state agencies; and to
   provide for an appropriation,"

   by amending section 3 (MCL 390.1323).

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 3.  (1) A recognized graduate or professional graduate

 2    school in this state is eligible to participate in the program if

 3    the graduate or professional graduate school  is  MEETS ALL OF

 4    THE FOLLOWING:

 5         (A) IS a degree-granting institution approved by the state

 6    board of education.  , the 

 7         (B) ITS instructional programs are not comprised solely of

 8    sectarian instruction or religious worship.  , and the school

 9     participates

 1         (C) PARTICIPATES in the federal work-study program under

 2    sections 441 to 448 OF PART C of title IV of the higher education

 3    act of 1965, PUBLIC LAW 89-329, 42 U.S.C. 2751 to 2756b.

 4         (D) IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE MICHIGAN CAMPUS SEXUAL ASSAULT

 5    INFORMATION ACT.

 6         (2) A participating school, at its option, may offer aca-

 7    demic credit to students enrolled in the program.

 8         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

 9    effect unless Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. ____

10    (request no. 00715'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

11    law.
