        A bill to create a grant program in the department of state;

   to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state officials; to

   provide for an appropriation; and to provide for the expenditure

   of the appropriation.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 1.  (1) Beginning January 1, 1998, and each year after

 2    1998, the department of state shall make a matching grant to ben-

 3    efit state historical facilities.  The department of state shall

 4    provide matching funds, dollar for dollar, up to $200,000.00 per

 5    year, for all funds donated to the Michigan historical center

 6    foundation, from whatever source, for the benefit of state his-

 7    torical facilities.

 8         (2) Funds shall be appropriated each year for the purposes

 9    described in subsection (1).  This appropriation shall be in
