        A bill to amend 1933 PA 62, entitled

   "Property tax limitation act,"

   (MCL 211.201 to 211.217a) by amending the title, as amended by

   1994 PA 190, and by adding section 5m.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act to provide limits on the rate of taxation on

 3    property;  , and  to provide for a division of the rate of taxa-

 4    tion between counties, townships, municipal corporations, inter-

 5    mediate school districts, and other local units;  and  to earmark

 6    funds raised by increasing the total tax limitation; TO PRESCRIBE

 7    PENALTIES AND PROVIDE REMEDIES; and to repeal all acts and parts

 8    of acts and charters and parts of charters of municipal

 9    corporations inconsistent with or contravening the provisions of

10    this act.

 1         SEC. 5M.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 5A, 5B, OR 5K, INCLUDING

 2    THE CIRCULATION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SEC-

 3    TION 488 OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.

 4    A PERSON WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW,

 5    1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION

 6    DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED

 7    FOR THAT VIOLATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL

 8    168.1 TO 168.992.

 9         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

10    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

11    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

12    law.
