     September 30, 1997, Introduced by Reps. Hammerstrom, Brackenridge, Crissman and Birkholz and referred to the Committee on Local Government.


        A bill to amend 1967 PA 204, entitled

   "Metropolitan transportation authorities act of 1967,"

   (MCL 124.401 to 124.426) by amending the title, as amended by

   1988 PA 481, and by adding section 16a.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act to create metropolitan transportation authorities; to

 3    define their powers and duties, including the creation of trans-

 4    portation districts; to provide for the withdrawal of counties

 5    from the authorities; to require the state to guarantee payment

 6    of certain claims against certain transportation authorities and

 7    to give the state a lien in satisfaction of payment;  and  to

 8    permit the creation of certain councils; AND TO PRESCRIBE

 9    PENALTIES AND PROVIDE REMEDIES.

 1         SEC. 16A.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 16, INCLUDING THE

 2    CIRCULATION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SECTION

 3    488 OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.  A

 4    PERSON WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW,

 5    1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION

 6    DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED

 7    FOR THAT VIOLATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL

 8    168.1 TO 168.992.

 9         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

10    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

11    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

12    law.
