        A bill to amend 1966 PA 331, entitled

   "Community college act of 1966,"

   (MCL 389.1 to 389.195) by amending the title and by adding sec-

   tion 2.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act to revise and consolidate the laws relating to commu-

 3    nity colleges; to provide for the creation of community college

 4    districts; to provide a charter for such districts; to provide

 5    for the government, control and administration of such districts;

 6    to provide for the election of a board of trustees; to define the

 7    powers and duties of the board of trustees; to provide for the

 8    assessment, levy, collection and return of taxes therefor; TO

 9    PRESCRIBE PENALTIES AND PROVIDE REMEDIES; and to repeal  certain 

10    acts and parts of acts.

 1         SEC. 2.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 83 OR 152, INCLUDING THE

 2    CIRCULATION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SECTION

 3    488 OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.  A

 4    PERSON WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW,

 5    1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION

 6    DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED

 7    FOR THAT VIOLATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL

 8    168.1 TO 168.992.

 9         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

10    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

11    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

12    law.
