A bill to amend 1980 PA 469, entitled "The whistleblowers' protection act," by amending section 2 (MCL 15.362). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 2. An employer shall not discharge, threaten, or oth- 2 erwise discriminate against an employee regarding the employee's 3 compensation, terms, conditions, location, or privileges of 4 employmentbecause theFOR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 5 (A) THE employee, or a person acting on behalf of the 6 employee, VERBALLY OR IN WRITING reports or is about to report,7verbally or in writing,TO A PUBLIC BODY a violation or a sus- 8 pected violation of a law or regulation or rule promulgated 9pursuant to lawIN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS of this state, a 10 political subdivision of this state, or the United States,to a03940'97 DMS 2 1public body,unless the employee knows that the report is false. 2, or because an3 (B) THE employee is requested by a public body to partici- 4 pate in A COURT ACTION OR IN an investigation, hearing, or 5 inquiry held by that public body., or a court action.6 (C) THE EMPLOYEE PUBLICLY DISCUSSES ISSUES RELATED TO THE 7 EMPLOYER THAT AFFECT PUBLIC SAFETY, HEALTH, OR WELFARE. 03940'97 Final page.
