A bill to amend 1996 PA 193, entitled "Michigan do-not-resuscitate procedure act," by amending section 11 (MCL 333.1061). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 11. (1) One or more of the following health profes- 2 sionals who arrive at a declarant's location outside of a hospi- 3 tal, OUTSIDE OF a nursing home, or OUTSIDE OF a mental health 4 facility owned or operated by the department of community health 5 shall determine if the declarant has 1 or more vital signs, AND 6 SHALL MAKE THAT DETERMINATION whether or not the health profes- 7 sional views or is provided with an order described in section 3 8 or 5 that is alleged to have been signed by the declarant or 9 other person authorized to execute an order: 10 (a) A paramedic. 03976'97 CPD 2 1 (b) An emergency medical technician. 2 (c) An emergency medical technician specialist. 3 (d) A physician. 4 (e) A nurse WHO IS EMPLOYED BY OR UNDER CONTRACT TO ANOTHER 5 HEALTH PROFESSIONAL OR A HEALTH FACILITY OR AGENCY LICENSED UNDER 6 ARTICLE 17 OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH CODE, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.20101 7 TO 333.22260. 8 (f) A medical first responder. 9 (g) A respiratory therapist. 10 (2) If the health professional determines under 11 subsection (1) that the declarant has no vital signs, and if the 12 health professional determines that the declarant is wearing a 13 do-not-resuscitate identification bracelet or is provided with a 14 do-not-resuscitate order for the declarant,he or sheTHE 15 HEALTH PROFESSIONAL shall not attempt to resuscitate the 16 declarant. 03976'97 Final page.
