HOUSE BILL No. 6104

Harder, Cropsey, McBryde, Kaza, Walberg, Horton, McManus, Whyman, Hammerstrom, Jansen, Nye, Geiger, Gernaat, London, Dalman, Lowe, Sanborn, Birkholz, Green, Bodem, Middaugh, DeVuyst, Goschka and Perricone and referred to the Committee on Colleges and Universities.


        A bill to amend 1978 PA 105, entitled

   "An act to provide grants to students enrolled in independent
   nonprofit institutions of higher learning; and to provide for the
   promulgation of rules,"

   by amending section 2 (MCL 390.1272), as amended by 1980 PA 502.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 2.  The authority shall make a differential grant to a

 2    full-time or part-time resident student enrolled in an indepen-

 3    dent nonprofit college or university located in this state if all

 4    of the following  occur  ARE MET:

 5         (a) The college or university is approved by the state board

 6    of education.

 7         (b) The instructional programs of the college or university

 8    are not comprised solely of sectarian instruction or religious

 9    worship.

 1         (c) The college or university is incorporated under  Act

 2     No.  327 of the Public Acts of 1931, as amended, being sections

 3     450.62 to 450.192 of the Michigan Compiled Laws  1931 PA 327, MCL

 4    450.98 TO 450.192, or is subject to that act without formal

 5    organization under the act.

 6         (d) The college or university has filed with the state board

 7    of education a certificate of assurance of compliance with title

 8     6  VI of the civil rights act of 1964, Public Law 88-352,  77 

 9    78 Stat.  241  252, as in effect on January 1, 1966.

10         (E) THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE

11    TAXPAYER-FUNDED ABORTION PROHIBITION ACT.

12         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

13    effect unless Senate Bill No. _______ or House Bill No. _______

14    (request no. 04207'97 *) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

15    law.
