SENATE BILL NO. 1059


   April 22, 1998, Introduced by Senator JAYE and referred to the
        Committee on Hunting, Fishing and Forestry.



        A bill to amend 1990 PA 319, entitled

   "An act to prohibit local units of government from imposing cer-
   tain restrictions on the ownership, registration, purchase, sale,
   transfer, transportation, or possession of pistols or other fire-
   arms, ammunition for pistols or other firearms, or components of
   pistols or other firearms,"

   (MCL 123.1101 to 123.1105) by adding section 2a.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         SEC. 2A.  A LOCAL UNIT OF GOVERNMENT SHALL NOT PROHIBIT AN

 2    INDIVIDUAL LICENSED UNDER FEDERAL LAW TO ENGAGE IN THE BUSINESS

 3    OF SELLING FIREARMS FROM ENGAGING IN THAT BUSINESS IN ANY AREA OF

 4    THE LOCAL UNIT OF GOVERNMENT IN WHICH A PERSON IS PERMITTED TO

 5    ENGAGE IN ANY OTHER BUSINESS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, A

 6    RESIDENCE.
