Whereas, George Sallade, a graduate of the University of Michigan with both bachelor's and law degrees, was an example of the highest standards of service to others. He was a man with abundant enthusiasm for life. Much to the benefit of Michigan and his community, he channeled this energy to many positive ends. He served on the Ann Arbor City Council and was its president prior to his 1954 election to the Michigan House of Representatives. In his three terms as a lawmaker, Mr. Sallade consistently put what he felt to be the best interests of the state in front of political expediency; and

Whereas, Following his work in Lansing, George Sallade continued to work to give voice to important causes and civic concerns. He remained energized by the challenges of public policy, promoting ideas and people sharing his vision. His efforts included publishing, the law, and encouraging others to become involved in political life. A man who fought many battles all his life, including health, George Sallade used his cheerfulness to bring many good things to Michigan and Ann Arbor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of tribute as a memorial for George Wahr Sallade, State Representative from 1955 to 1960; and be it further

A bill to make appropriations for the department of environmental quality for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1998; to provide for the expenditure of those appropriations; to create funds and accounts; to require reports; to prescribe certain powers and duties of certain state agencies and officials; to authorize certain transfers by certain state agencies; and to provide for the disposition of fees and other income received by the various state agencies.
