Rev. Robert John Harris, Pastor of Milford Presbyterian Church in Milford, offered the following invocation:
"Gracious God, we begin this session of the House of Representatives of the quintessential state of Michigan profoundly moved by Your amazing grace. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever--You do not change Your attitude toward us. Your love has no limits. We all need something infinitely greater than self esteem. We need the security and serenity that comes only from You. We report in for the duties of this day, needing a fresh infusion of delight in being alive and being assigned crucial work to do. Holy Spirit, be the wind under our wings. Lift us to new heights of effectiveness. We claim this promise: 'But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles.' (Isaiah 40:31) Lord, help us to soar in the jet stream of Your power. In the name of Him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, Amen."

Whereas, Thursday, March 16, 2000, has been designated as Absolutely Incredible Kid Day to encourage an honest and lasting gift of love from parents to their children; and
Whereas, Camp Fire Boys and Girls is calling for parents to make a difference in the life of a child. All that is needed is a pen, some paper, and some honest reflection. This wonderful opportunity to communicate our true feelings to our children is a part of Absolutely Incredible Kid Day; and
Whereas, Absolutely Incredible Kid Day encourages adults to pause and write a letter filled with love and appreciation for a child. The ten to fifteen minutes spent writing this letter could have lasting effects on the child's life; and
Whereas, Often, in the midst of our hectic lives, we forget to pause to tell our children they are special and how important it is for our children, who are constantly bombarded with negative influences, to hear how much they are loved and respected for the incredible people they are; and
Whereas, All parents are encouraged to write a note to a child and tuck it in his backpack or under her pillow. This small token of love will be a gift the child will remember and cherish forever; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we commemorate March 16, 2000, as Absolutely Incredible Kid Day as evidence of support for this praiseworthy endeavor; and be it further

House Resolution No. 301.
A resolution commemorating May 12, 2000 as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day.
Whereas, Organizations nationwide are recognizing child care providers on May 12, 2000; and
Whereas, Of the 21 million children under the age of 6 in America, 13 million are in child care at least part of the time. An additional 24 million school-age children are in some form of child care outside of school time; and
Whereas, By calling attention to the importance of high quality child care services for all children and families within our state and community, these groups hope to improve the quality and availability of such services; and
Whereas, Our future depends on the quality of the early childhood experiences provided to young children today. High quality early child care services represent a worthy commitment to our children's future; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we commemorate May 12, 2000 as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day and urge all citizens to recognize child care providers for their important work.
