MONROE COUNTY MEDAL

OF HONOR HIGHWAY

House Bill 5028

Sponsor: Rep. Randy Richardville

Committee: Veterans Affairs

Complete to 10-29-99

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5028 AS INTRODUCED 10-26-99

The bill would create a new act to designate the part of highway I-75 located in Monroe County the "Michigan's Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Highway." The Department of Transportation (MDOT) would have to erect a marker sign at each approach to this part of I-75, both north- and southbound, plus a single marker at or near the welcome center accessed by northbound I-75 in Monroe County. The highway access markers would have to say "Michigan's Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Highway" (or something similar), while the marker at or near the welcome center would have to identify by name each of Michigan's congressional medal of honor recipients. The department would erect these new markers only when either it erected new signage to replace old signage in the course of ordinary maintenance or when sufficient private contributions were received to pay the cost of erecting these markers, or both.
