A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5181 AS INTRODUCED 12-8-99


The bill would amend Part 210 of the Public Health Code, which deals primarily with health maintenance organizations (HMOs), to require the commissioner of the Office of Financial and Insurance Services and the director of the Department of Community Health to establish and maintain a statewide toll-free telephone line to assist state residents with questions, complaints, and grievances related to health insurance and health coverage. The telephone line would have to be available on business days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
