A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5258 AS INTRODUCED 2-1-00


House Bill 5258 would add a new part, Part 332, to the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to regulate radioactive materials. The bill would specify that mixed oxide material could not be transported on a bridge over -- or a tunnel under -- the Great Lakes, or their connecting waterways. Further, under the bill, a violation of this provision would be a felony, punishable by a fine of up to $1 million, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
