A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5819 AS INTRODUCED 5-23-00

The bill would amend the McCauley-Traxler-Law-Bowman-McNeely Lottery Act to raise, from 18 to 21 years, the age at which a person could purchase a lottery ticket. Further, under current law, a person who is 18 years or older can buy a ticket or a share of a ticket as a gift for a person who is under 18. The bill would delete this provision. Finally, the bill would specify that if the person entitled to a prize or any winning ticket was at least 18 but under 21 years of age, the prize would be held by the lottery bureau until the person's 21st birthday.
