SCHOOL YEAR/LABOR DAY - H.B. 4099 (H-4): COMMITTEE SUMMARY
House Bill 4099 (Substitute H-4 as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Scott Shackleton
House Committee: Great Lakes and Tourism
Senate Committee: Education
Date Completed: 9-29-99
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Revised School Code to provide that, for the 2000-01, 2001-02, and 2002-03 school years, the board of a school district, local act school district, public school academy, or intermediate school district (ISD) would have to ensure that the district's or academy's schools were not in session on the Friday before Labor Day, meaning the first Monday in September.
If a collective bargaining agreement that provided a complete school calendar were in effect as of May 1, 1999, for employees of a school district, local act school district, public school academy, or ISD, and if that school calendar did not comply with the bill, then the above provision would not apply to that district, academy, or ISD until after that collective bargaining agreement expired.
