A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending sections 257, 258, 261, 262, 263, and 264 (MCL 168.257, 168.258, 168.261, 168.262, 168.263, and 168.264). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 257. If for any reason there is no candidate OR AN 2 INSUFFICIENT NUMBER OF CANDIDATES of a political party for THE 3 OFFICE OF county road commissioner, a blank space AN APPROPRI- 4 ATE NUMBER OF BLANK SPACES shall be provided on each of the offi- 5 cial primary ballots which THAT will afford every elector of 6 said THE party an opportunity to vote for a candidate OR 7 CANDIDATES for such THE office by writing in the name of his or 8 her selection OR SELECTIONS or by the use of a slip or paster. 9 Sec. 258. The candidate OR CANDIDATES of each political 10 party for the office of county road commissioner receiving the 02503'99 a TMV 2 1 greatest number of votes cast for candidates for said THE 2 office, as set forth in the report of the board of county can- 3 vassers, based on the returns from the various election pre- 4 cincts, or as determined by said THAT board as the result of a 5 recount, shall be declared the nominee OR NOMINEES of that polit- 6 ical party for said THE office at the next ensuing November 7 election, and the board of county canvassers shall forthwith cer- 8 tify such nomination THE NOMINATION OR NOMINATIONS to the 9 county election commission. 10 Sec. 261. A county road commissioner SUBJECT TO SECTION 7 11 OF CHAPTER IV OF 1909 PA 283, MCL 224.7, 1 OR 2 COUNTY ROAD 12 COMMISSIONERS shall be elected at the general election to be held 13 on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday of November in every 14 even numbered year. 15 Sec. 262. The board of county canvassers shall determine 16 which candidate OR CANDIDATES for THE OFFICE OF county road com- 17 missioner received the greatest number of votes and shall declare 18 such THE candidate OR CANDIDATES to be duly elected. The 19 said board OF COUNTY CANVASSERS shall forthwith make and 20 subscribe IMMEDIATELY CERTIFY ITS DETERMINATION on its statement 21 of returns a certificate of such determination and deliver the 22 same IT to the county clerk. 23 Sec. 263. The county clerk shall file in his OR HER office 24 and preserve the original statement and determination of the 25 board of county canvassers of the results of the election and 26 shall forthwith IMMEDIATELY execute and cause to be delivered 27 to the person thereby PERSONS declared to be elected to the 02503'99 a 3 1 office of county road commissioner a certificate of election, 2 certified by him THE COUNTY CLERK under the seal of the 3 county. 4 Sec. 264.
