Van Woerkom, Pumford, Jelinek, Patterson, Garcia, Hager, DeWeese, Brater, Koetje, Godchaux,
Bisbee, DeHart, Richardville, Martinez, Sanborn, Scranton and Raczkowski and referred to the
Committee on Family and Children Services.


        A bill to protect and promote children's health; to estab-

   lish certain eligibility criteria for the MIChild program; and to

   prescribe the powers and duties of certain public agencies and

   officers.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 1.  This act shall be known and may be cited as the

 2    "MIChild program act".

 3         Sec. 2.  As used in this act:

 4         (a) "Department" means the department of community health.

 5         (b) "MIChild program" means the MIChild program funded in

 6    1999 PA 114.

 7         Sec. 3.  If the department determines that a child is eligi-

 8    ble to receive benefits under the MIChild program, coverage for

 9    the child begins as of the date the application was submitted to

10    the department.
