        the Committee on Government Operations.



        A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled

   "Michigan election law,"

   by amending sections 509u and 509ee (MCL 168.509u and 168.509ee),

   as added by 1994 PA 441.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 509u.  (1) Not later than  the thirtieth day after
             the

 2     effective date of this section  FEBRUARY 9, 1995,
                       the governor

 3    shall provide a list to the secretary of state designating the

 4    executive departments, state agencies, or other offices that will

 5    perform voter registration activities in this state.

 6         (2) Pursuant to the national voter registration act of 1993,

 7    a recruitment office of the armed forces of the United States is

 8    a designated voter registration agency under this act.

 1         (3) IN ADDITION TO DESIGNATED VOTER REGISTRATION AGENCIES

 2    DESIGNATED UNDER SUBSECTIONS (1) AND (2), EACH OF THE FOLLOWING

 3    MAY BE A DESIGNATED VOTER REGISTRATION AGENCY UNDER THIS ACT:

 4         (A) A LOCATION WHERE THE SALE OF HUNTING AND FISHING

 5    LICENSES IS AUTHORIZED UNDER PART 435 OF THE NATURAL RESOURCES

 6    AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT, 1994 PA 451, MCL 324.43501 TO

 7    324.43561.

 8         (B) A LOCATION WHERE FIREARMS ARE SOLD TO THE PUBLIC BY A

 9    PERSON LICENSED UNDER FEDERAL LAW TO SELL FIREARMS IN THIS STATE.

10         Sec. 509ee.  (1)  Not  EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE
             PROVIDED IN

11    SUBSECTION (2), NOT later than 90 days after the request of the

12    secretary of state, a designated voter registration agency shall

13    transmit to the secretary of state a report including all of the

14    following:

15         (a) Information requested by the secretary of state neces-

16    sary to administer the provisions of sections 509m to 509gg and

17    the national voter registration act of 1993.

18         (b) Any other information considered necessary by the secre-

19    tary of state.

20         (2) SUBSECTION (1) DOES NOT APPLY TO A LOCATION THAT IS A

21    DESIGNATED VOTER REGISTRATION AGENCY UNDER SECTION 509U(3).  THE

22    SECRETARY OF STATE SHALL NOT REQUEST A REPORT FROM A LOCATION

23    THAT IS A DESIGNATED VOTER REGISTRATION AGENCY UNDER

24    SECTION 509U(3).
