A bill to designate December 7 of each year as Pearl Harbor

day in the state of Michigan.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

1 Sec. 1. (1) The legislature recognizes the enormous sacri-

2 fice made by the 2,335 servicemen and servicewomen who gave their

3 lives in the defense of this nation during the Japanese surprise

4 attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Another 1,143 serv-

5 icemen and servicewomen were injured during the attack. The leg-

6 islature further recognizes that the attack on Pearl Harbor

7 changed the course of history by bringing the United States into

8 the war with Japan and Germany. In commemoration of this his-

9 toric and tragic attack, the legislature declares that December 7

10 of each year shall be known as "Pearl Harbor Day".

11 (2) The legislature encourages individuals, governmental and

12 educational institutions, and community organizations to pause on

1 Pearl Harbor day and reflect upon the courage and sacrifice of

2 those who died or were injured in that attack.
