A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, by amending section 12 of article IV, to pro- vide that the state officers compensation commission's determina- tion of certain salaries and expense allowances become effective only upon approval by the legislature for the following legisla- tive session. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, to provide that the state officers compensa- tion commission's determination of certain salaries and expense allowances become effective only upon approval by the legislature for the following legislative session, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the state: 01115'99 JLB 2 1 ARTICLE IV 2 Sec. 12. The state officers compensation commission is cre- 3 ated which shall determine the salaries and expense allowances of 4 the members of the legislature, the governor, the lieutenant 5 governor, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, THE SECRETARY OF STATE, and the 6 justices of the supreme court. The commission shall consist of 7 7 members appointed by the governor. The commission shall deter- 8 mine the salaries and expense allowances of the members of the 9 legislature, the governor, the lieutenant governor, THE ATTORNEY 10 GENERAL, THE SECRETARY OF STATE, and the justices of the supreme 11 court which determinations shall be the salaries and expense 12 allowancesunlessONLY IF the legislature by concurrent resolu- 13 tion adopted by2/3A MAJORITY of the members elected to and 14 serving in each house of the legislaturerejectAPPROVE them. 15TheIF THE SALARY AND EXPENSE DETERMINATIONS ARE APPROVED AS 16 PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION, THE SALARY AND EXPENSE DETERMINATIONS 17 SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE FOR THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IMMEDIATELY 18 FOLLOWING THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PRO- 19 VIDED BY THE LEGISLATURE, THE commission shall meet each 2 years 20 for no more than 15 session days.
