A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, by amending section 21 of article V, to pro- vide for the filling of the office of lieutenant governor upon a vacancy. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, to provide for the filling of the office of lieutenant governor upon a vacancy, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the state: 1 ARTICLE V 2 Sec. 21. The governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of 3 state and attorney general shall be elected for four-year terms 4 at the general election in each alternate even-numbered year. 5 The lieutenant governor, secretary of state and attorney 6 general shall be nominated by party conventions in a manner 00094'99 JLB 2 1 prescribed by law. In the general election one vote shall be 2 cast jointly for the candidates for governor and lieutenant gov- 3 ernor nominated by the same party. 4 A VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR SHALL BE 5 FILLED BY APPOINTMENT BY THE GOVERNOR. Vacancies in the office of 6 the secretary of state and attorney general shall be filled by 7 appointment by the governor. 8 Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be sub- 9 mitted to the people of the state at the next general election in 10 the manner provided by law. 00094'99 Final page.
