A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4270 AS INTRODUCED 2-15-01
House Bill 4270 would create a new act to permit employers to encourage employees to seek and to serve in local elective office. Under the bill, "employee" is defined to mean a person who performs a service for wages or other remuneration under a contract of hire, written or oral, express or implied. Further, "local elective office" is defined to mean an elective office at the local unit of government level. Local elective office would not include an elective office that is considered a full-time position. Finally, "local unit of government" is defined to mean a district, authority, county, city, village, township, board, school district, intermediate school district, or community college district.
