A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4494 AS INTRODUCED 3-20-01
House Bill 4494 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to revise and reduce the registration fees for certain commercial carriers by setting vehicle weight increments in the law. Currently, registration fees are assessed according to a schedule of elected gross weights, for all trucks weighing 8,000 pounds or less towing a trailer or any other combination of vehicles, and for all trucks weighing 8,001 pounds or more, and for road tractors or truck tractors. That schedule sets a fee of $491 for vehicles weighing 0 to 24,000 pounds. The fee is $558 for vehicles weighing 24,001 to 26,000 pounds, and also for vehicles weighing 26,001 to 28,000 pounds. Under the bill, the following schedule would apply:
