A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4998 AS INTRODUCED 6-28-01
The bill would amend the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSHA) to apply MIOSHA health and safety standards to people who were receiving vocational training. More specifically, the bill would define "vocational training" to mean "instruction under a program designed to prepare individuals for gainful employment as semi-skilled or skilled workers or technicians," and would include training that was provided by secondary or post-secondary educational institutions. The bill also would amend the definitions of "employee," "employer," and "place of employment" to include references to receiving or providing vocational training.
