A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5828 AS INTRODUCED 4-9-02

House Bill 5828 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to prohibit a person from operating a motor vehicle with an audible sound system producing noise in excess of 90 DBA. [Under the code, "decibels on the a-weighted network" or "DBA" is defined to mean decibels measured on the a-weighted network of a sound level meter, as specified in the American National Standards Institute standard S 1.4-1971.] The bill specifies that a person who violated this prohibition would be responsible for a civil infraction.
