A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6171 AS INTRODUCED 6-5-02

House Bill 6171 would amend the Sex Offenders Registration Act (MCL 28.722) to expand the act's listed offenses to include a violation of Section 539d of the Penal Code (MCL 750.539d) when the violation is committed for purposes of sexual gratification. Section 539d of the Penal Code prohibits the installation of devices for observing, photographing, or eavesdropping upon the sounds or events in a private place, without the consent of persons entitled to privacy there. Any person who violates this prohibition is guilty of a felony, punishable by up to two years imprisonment, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.
