ELECTION REVISIONS - S.B. 439 (S-1): FLOOR ANALYSIS
Senate Bill 439 (Substitute S-1 as reported)
Sponsor: Senator Bev Hammerstrom
Committee: Government Operations
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Election Law to specify the dates upon which elections could be held in the State. In general, beginning January 1, 2003, an election held under the Michigan Election Law would have to be held on one of the following regular election dates: the fourth Tuesday in February; the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May; the first Tuesday after the first Monday in August; or the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The bill also would require a special election to be held on a regular election day. A special election called by the Governor to fill a vacant office, or called by the Legislature to submit to the voters a proposed Constitutional amendment, could, but would not have to be held on a regular election day.
The Secretary of State would have to direct and supervise the consolidation of all elections held under the Law, on the days as prescribed in the bill.
