CONTENT
The bill would create a new act authorizing school boards to award high school diplomas to certain World War II veterans, and making the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs responsible for the program.
When applying for the diploma, a qualifying veteran would have to be at least 65 years old, if living, or would have to have been at least 65 years of age, if deceased; have been drafted or enlisted into the armed forces between December 16, 1940, and December 31, 1946; have been enrolled in high school at the time of entering the military, but never graduated; and have served under honorable conditions during the war. The veteran or the veteran's spouse, sibling, children, or grandchildren could fill out an application prescribed by the Veterans Affairs Directorate of the Department of Veterans and Military Affairs. The application would be made to the school district in which the veteran was enrolled at the time of entering the military.
The Department would have to notify the board of each school district of the proposed act, and take steps to encourage each district to meet its objective.
