        A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

   "The revised school code,"

   by amending section 1284b (MCL 380.1284b), as added by 1999

   PA 141.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

           Sec. 1284b.  (1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection

 2
      (2),  for the 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2002-2003 school years, 

 3
      the board of a school district, local act school district, public

 4
      school academy, or intermediate school district shall ensure that

 5
      the district's or public school academy's schools are not in ses-

 6
      sion on the Friday before Labor day.  As used in this section,

 7
      "Labor day" means the first Monday in September.

 8
           (2) If a collective bargaining agreement that provides a

 9
      complete school calendar is in effect as of May 1, 1999 for

10
      employees of a school district, local act school district, public

      school academy, or intermediate school district, and if that

 2
      school calendar is not in compliance with subsection (1), then

 3
      subsection (1) does not apply to that school district, local act

 4
      school district, public school academy, or intermediate school

 5
      district until after the expiration of that collective bargaining

 6
      agreement.
