HOUSE BILL No. 4941

        A bill to create a department of history, arts, and culture;

   to provide for its administration; and to provide for its powers,

   duties, functions, and responsibilities.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

           Sec. 1.  This act shall be known and may be cited as the

      "history, arts, and culture act".

           Sec. 2.  As used in this act:

           (a) "Department" means the department of history, arts, and

 5
      culture created in section 3.

 6
           (b) "Director" means the director of the department.

 7
           Sec. 3.  The department of history, arts, and culture is

 8
      created.

 9
           Sec. 4.  The department shall be headed by a director who

      shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the governor.

           Sec. 5.  The department shall carry out the powers, duties,

      functions, and responsibilities as provided in Executive Order

 3
      No. 2001-1, as provided in this act, and as otherwise provided by

 4
