A bill to amend 1964 PA 287, entitled "An act to provide for the organization and functions of the state boards of education under the constitutions of 1908 and 1963; to provide for the appointment and functions of the super- intendent of public instruction under the constitution of 1963; and to repeal certain acts and parts of acts," by amending section 9a (MCL 388.1009a), as amended by 1983 PA 240. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 9a. The special education advisory committee is cre- 2 ated in the department of education and shall consist of not less 3 than 9 and not more than2733 members, who shall be appoint-4ed, in multiples of 3,APPOINTED by the state board of education 5 for terms of 3 years., except that of the members first6appointed in 1983 or thereafter, 1/3 shall be appointed for a7term of 3 years, 1/3 for a term of 2 years, and 1/3 for a term of81 year.The person within the department directly responsible 04441'01 TAV 2 1 for special education programs andsuchother persons as 2 appointed by the committee to represent other departments, agen- 3 cies, and 4-year colleges and universities, upon consultation 4 with those departments, agencies, and colleges and universities, 5 shall be ex officio members of the committee. Each year the com- 6 mittee shall electitsA chairperson andsuchother officers 7 as itdeemsCONSIDERS necessary. Members of the committee may 8 be reimbursed, to the extent provided by the state board, for 9 expenses incurred in performing their functions.
