A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled "The Michigan penal code," by amending section 231 (MCL 750.231), as amended by 1998 PA 510. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 231. Sections 224, 227, 227c, and 227d do not apply to 2 any of the following: 3 (a) A peace officer of a duly authorized police agency of 4 the United States, of this state, or of any political subdivision 5 of this state, who is regularly employed and paid by the United 6 States, this state, or a political subdivision of this state. 7 (B) A RESERVE POLICE OFFICER OF A DULY AUTHORIZED POLICE 8 AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHO 9 IS REGULARLY EMPLOYED AS A RESERVE POLICE OFFICER OF THIS STATE 10 OR A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE. 06064'01 a TVD 2 1 (C)(b)Any person regularly employed by the state 2 department of corrections, and authorized in writing by the 3 director of the department of corrections to carry a concealed 4 weapon while in the official performance of his or her duties or 5 while going to or returning from those duties. 6 (D)(c)A person employed by a private vendor that oper- 7 ates a youth correctional facility authorized under section 20g 8 of 1953 PA 232, MCL 791.220g, who meets the same criteria estab- 9 lished by the director of the state department of corrections for 10 departmental employees described in subdivision(b)(C) and who 11 is authorized in writing by the director of the department of 12 corrections to carry a concealed weapon while in the official 13 performance of his or her duties or while going to or returning 14 from those duties. 15 (E)(f)Any member of the army, air force, navy, or marine 16 corps of the United States when carrying weapons in line of or 17 incidental to duty. 18 (F)(e)Organizations authorized by law to purchase or 19 receive weapons from the United States or from this state. 20 (G)(f)Members of the national guard, armed forces 21 reserves, or other duly authorized military organizations when on 22 duty or drill, or in going to or returning from their places of 23 assembly or practice by a direct route or otherwise, while carry- 24 ing weapons used for purposes of the national guard, armed forces 25 reserves, or other duly authorized military organizations. 06064'01 a Final page.
