A bill to allow the display of the Ten Commandments on public property under certain circumstances. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. (1) A document or other object that contains the 2 Ten Commandments may be displayed on public property if all of 3 the following circumstances are met: 4 (a) It is displayed with other documents, public records, or 5 objects of historical significance that have formed and influ- 6 enced the legal or governmental system of the United States. 7 (b) It is displayed in the same manner as other documents, 8 public records, or objects that are displayed at the same time 9 and location. 10 (c) The display does not focus more attention on it than on 11 other documents, public records, or other objects that are 12 displayed at the same time and location. 00125'01 CAS 2 1 (2) As used in this section: 2 (a) "Political subdivision" means a county, city, township, 3 village, school district, or other governmental unit. 4 (b) "Public property" means a building or land owned, pos- 5 sessed, or leased by this state or a political subdivision of 6 this state. 00125'01 Final page.
