Rev. Joel Kaiser, Pastor of Saint Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, offered the following invocation:

"O God, You are a God of love, teach us what real love is all about. On a day when the thoughts of many are on romantic love, we pause to give thanks for the romantic loves and the special relationships that we may have in our lives--for sweetheart and spouse, for family and friends, for close relationships and special people. Help us to cherish and nurture these relationships and see that, although it may take work, real love is worth the effort.

On this day, dear God, teach us also what true love means when it comes to our fellow human beings. It has been said, 'love your neighbor as yourself,' but is has also been said, 'love your enemies and do good to those who hate you.' May we not only see, but own the responsibility to love all people, regardless of age, race, gender, culture, language, health condition, mental status, economic tax brackets, religious beliefs or political views. May we recognize that loving others means putting them ahead of ourselves, putting their needs ahead of our needs. Let us learn that true love may involve self-sacrifice, self-sufficiency and self-control when it is done for the sake of the common good.

May we give ourselves wholly to the work which is set before us this day. Give us Your guidance and blessing. It has been said, 'greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.' Although we may never have the privilege or responsibility of laying down our physical lives for another, may we ever have the courage to lay down, to get rid of, whatever may stand in the way of true love for family, for community, for state, for country, for our fellow human beings, for the truth, and especially for You. Hear us, O God. Amen."

House Resolution No. 29.

A resolution to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Muskegon Conservation Club and to express appreciation for their valuable contributions in Michigan.

Whereas, We are proud to join with the members, officers, and friends of the Muskegon Conservation Club as they gather to mark the 60th anniversary of this outstanding group. This milestone is a reflection of unselfishness and commitment to serving the conservation needs of Muskegon. While the members of this distinguished organization celebrate 60 years of service, we offer our thanks for the gifts they have shared within the Muskegon area and throughout Michigan; and

Whereas, The Muskegon Conservation Club can trace its origins to 1941 and the aspirations of its founders. In the years that have followed since they first came together, this organization has adapted to changes in society, membership, and expectations. This ability to grow and change has provided the path for members to maintain their mission of service and their unity of the membership; and

Whereas, The Muskegon Conservation Club has promoted education and safety to area youth through hunter safety programs given twice a year. Other programs include Sportsman for Youth, TRACKS MAGAZINE, the Adopt a Highway, and the Muskegon Environmental Research and Education Society; and

Whereas, With ceremonies to celebrate its history, the members and officers of the Muskegon Conservation Club will remember the vision of many people and the hours and years of commitment that have brought the group to this point. Fittingly, as they look to the past, they will also be casting an eye to the future and to the many ways in which the Muskegon Conservation Club will continue to reach out in our state; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Muskegon Conservation Club and to express appreciation for their valuable contributions to the state of Michigan; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Muskegon Conservation Club as evidence of our esteem.
