AN ACT to consolidate prior acts naming certain Michigan highways; to provide for the naming of certain highways; to prescribe certain duties of the state transportation department; and to repeal acts and parts of acts and certain resolutions.
The People of the State of Michigan enact:
Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "Michigan memorial highway act".
Sec. 2. The state transportation department shall only provide for the erection and maintenance of suitable markers at the approach of any of the highways described in this act when sufficient private contributions are received to pay the cost of erecting and maintaining those markers.
Sec. 3. The portion of highways US-223 beginning at the intersection with US-23, M-34, and M-99 extending northwest through Monroe, Lenawee, Hillsdale, and Calhoun counties to the city of Homer shall be known as "Carleton Road".
Sec. 4. The portion of highway I-75 and US-23 beginning in the city of Saginaw and extending north to the city of Bay City shall be known as the "Roberts-Linton Highway" and as the "Veterans of World War I Memorial Highway".
Sec. 5. The portion of highway M-43 beginning in the city of East Lansing and extending west to the city of Grand Ledge shall be known as the "Frank D. Fitzgerald Memorial Highway".
Sec. 6. Highway M-53 extending from the city of Detroit north to M-25 in Huron county shall be known as the "Earle Memorial Highway".
Sec. 7. The portion of highway US-23 beginning at the border between Michigan and Ohio in Monroe county and extending north to the city of Mackinaw City shall be known as the "United Spanish War Veterans' Memorial Highway".
Sec. 8. The portion of US-2 beginning in St. Ignace and extending west to Gladstone, the portion of M-35 beginning in Gladstone and extending south to Wells, the portion of US-2 and M-41 beginning at Wells and extending west to Hermansville, the portion of US-2 beginning at Hermansville and extending west to Iron Mountain, the portion of M-95 beginning at Iron Mountain and extending north to Sagola, the portion of M-69 beginning at Sagola and extending west to Crystal Falls, and the portion of US-2 beginning in Crystal Falls and extending west to Ironwood shall be known as the "United Spanish War Veterans' Memorial Highway".
Sec. 9. The portion of highway M-95 beginning at the border between Michigan and Wisconsin in Dickinson county and extending north to Champion in Marquette county shall be known as the "Leif Erikson Memorial Highway".
Sec. 10. Highway M-107 in Ontonagon county shall be known as the "107th Engineer Memorial Road".
Sec. 11. The portion of highway US-31 beginning at the border between Michigan and Indiana in Berrien county and extending to the Straits of Mackinac at the county line of Emmet and Cheboygan counties shall be known as the "Blue Star Memorial Highway".
Sec. 12. The portion of highway US-12 beginning at highway M-1 in the city of Detroit and extending west to Lake Michigan shall be known as the "Pulaski Memorial Highway".
Sec. 13. The portion of M-125 beginning at the border between Michigan and Ohio in Monroe county and extending north to the intersection with US-24 and the portion of US-24 beginning at the intersection of M-125 and extending north to I-96 in Wayne county shall be known as the "Clara Barton Memorial Highway".
Sec. 14. The part of highway US-31 beginning at the county line of Muskegon and Oceana counties and extending north to the county line of Mason and Manistee counties shall be known as the "Pere Marquette Memorial Highway".
Sec. 15. The portion of M-102 from the intersection with Grand River avenue in the city of Farmington and extending east to M-3 in Macomb county shall be known as the "Columbus Memorial Highway".
Sec. 16. The portion of highway US-2 and highway US-41 and highway M-35 beginning at the northern city limit of Escanaba and extending north 1-1/10 miles to the junction of County Road No. 426, also known as the extension of Sheridan avenue, shall be known as the "AmVets Memorial Drive".
Sec. 17. (1) The portion of highway M-66 beginning at the intersection with highway M-78 in Calhoun county and extending north to the intersection with highway US-131 in Kalkaska county shall be known as the "Green Arrow Route".
(2) The portion of highway US-131 beginning at the border between Michigan and Indiana in St. Joseph county and extending north to the intersection with highway M-66 in Kalkaska county shall be known as the "Mackinac Trail".
(3) The portion of highway US-131 beginning at the intersection with highway M-66 and extending north to the intersection with highway US-31 and the portion of highway US-31 beginning at the intersection with highway US-131 and extending north to the straits of Mackinac shall be known as the "Green Arrow Route-Mackinac Trail".
Sec. 18. The portion of highway business loop I-94 located in Kalamazoo county shall be known as the "AmVets Memorial Parkway".
Sec. 19. The portion of highway M-10 located in Oakland county between the intersections of US-24 and M-102 shall be known as the "Adler Memorial Highway".
Sec. 20. The portion of highway I-75 beginning at the Michigan-Ohio state line and extending north to Sault Ste. Marie shall be known as the "American Legion Memorial Highway".
Sec. 21. The portion of highway I-475 that is in Genesee county shall be known as the "David Dunbar Buick Freeway" and "The UAW Freeway".
Sec. 22. The portion of highway I-69 beginning at the Shiawassee-Genesee county line and extending east to the Genesee-Lapeer county line shall be known as the "Louis Chevrolet Freeway".
Sec. 23. Highway I-696 in Oakland and Macomb counties shall be known as the "Walter P. Reuther Highway".
Sec. 24. The highway interchange at highway I-75 and highway M-8 shall be known as the "Charles J. Rogers Interchange".
Sec. 25. That portion of highway I-496 that is within the city limits of the city of Lansing shall be known as the "Olds Freeway".
Sec. 26. Highway I-196 in Kent, Ottawa, and Allegan counties shall be known as the "Gerald R. Ford Freeway".
Sec. 27. The portion of highway I-75 in Cheboygan and Mackinac counties shall be known as the "G. Mennen Williams Highway" and the "Prentiss M. Brown Memorial Highway".
Sec. 28. The portion of highway M-66 that is in Calhoun county shall be known as the "Sojourner Truth Memorial Highway".
Sec. 29. Highway I-275 beginning at the intersection of I-275 and I-75 in Monroe county and extending north to I-69 in Oakland county shall be known as the "Philip A. Hart Memorial Highway".
Sec. 30. The portion of highway M-59 beginning at the eastern city limit of the city of Pontiac and extending east to the western city limit of the city of Utica shall be known as the "Veterans Memorial Freeway".
Sec. 31. The portion of highway M-53 beginning at the northern city limit of the city of Sterling Heights and extending north to the village of Washington in Macomb county shall be known as the "Christopher Columbus Freeway".
Sec. 32. The portion of highway I-69 between the western city limit of the city of Flint and the eastern city limit of the city of Port Huron shall be known as the "Veterans Memorial Highway".
Sec. 33. Highway I-69 in Genesee county shall be known as the "Chevrolet-Buick Freeway".
Sec. 34. The portion of highway I-69 beginning at the eastern city limit of the city of Lapeer and extending east to the western city limit of the city of Port Huron shall be known as the "DeWayne T. Williams Memorial Highway".
Sec. 35. The portion of highway I-75 within the state of Michigan shall be known as the "American Legion Memorial Highway".
Sec. 36. Highway I-94 business loop in the city of Albion shall be known as the "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Highway".
Sec. 37. Highway M-28 beginning at the intersection with highway M-123 in Chippewa county and extending west to the east city limit of the city of Negaunee shall be known as the "Jacobetti Highway".
Sec. 38. Highway M-121 in Genesee county shall be known as the "Disabled American Veterans Highway".
Sec. 39. The portion of highway M-96 beginning at the intersection with business loop I-94 in the city of Kalamazoo and extending east to the village of Augusta shall be known as the "Fort Custer Memorial Highway".
Sec. 40. Highway M-125 in Monroe county shall be known as "Veterans Memorial Road".
Sec. 41. Highway US-31, business route, also known as Seaway Drive, beginning at the intersection with Spring street in Muskegon and continuing to the intersection with Getty street in Muskegon shall be known as the "Moses J. Jones Parkway".
Sec. 42. The portion of highway M-59 from the intersection with I-96 in Livingston county and extending east to the intersection with I-94 in Macomb county, excluding the section of highway M-59 between the city of Pontiac and the city of Utica, shall be known as the "Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway".
Sec. 43. Highway I-96 extending from Wayne county west to Muskegon county shall be known as the "AmVets Memorial Highway".
Sec. 44. The portion of highway I-75 that is within Wayne and Oakland counties shall be known as the "Walter P. Chrysler Freeway".
Sec. 45. The portion of highway M-38 beginning at the Ontonagon village limit and extending east to the Houghton county line shall be known as the "Joseph H. Meagher Memorial Highway".
Sec. 46. The portion of highway US-127 beginning at the north county line of Jackson county and extending south to the intersection with highway I-94 shall be known as the "Haskell L. Nichols Memorial Highway".
Sec. 47. Highway M-117 between M-28 and US-2 in Mackinac county is named in honor of the 117th quartermaster battalion.
Sec. 48. Highway US-12 in Wayne county extending west to the Michigan-Indiana state line in Berrien county shall be known as the "Iron Brigade Memorial Highway".
Sec. 49. The portion of highway US-31 beginning at the Michigan-Indiana state line and extending north to the intersection with I-94 in Berrien county shall be known as the "St. Joseph Valley Parkway".
Sec. 50. The portion of highway M-37 beginning at the intersection with US-10 in Lake county and extending north to the county line of Lake county and Wexford county shall be known as the "World War II Veterans Memorial Highway".
Sec. 51. Highway I-275 north of the Livonia intersection of I-275 and I-96 shall be known as the "Disabled American Veterans Memorial Highway".
Sec. 52. The portion of highway M-85 located in the city of Detroit between Outer drive and highway I-75 shall also be known as "Matt McNeely Boulevard".
Sec. 53. Highway M-6 located in Kent and Ottawa counties shall be known as the "Paul B. Henry Freeway".
Sec. 54. The part of highway M-5 located in the city of Farmington Hills and the city of Farmington extending from the interchange of highways I-96, I-275, and I-696 east to the intersection with M-102 shall be known as the "Keith Deacon Memorial Highway".
Sec. 55. The part of the bypass of highway US-131 that is located between M-115 and Boon road in Wexford county shall be known as the "Sydney Ouwinga Memorial Bypass".
Sec. 56. The part of highway M-33 located in Ogemaw and Oscoda counties between Houghton Creek road and Miller road shall be known as the "Veterans' Memorial Drive".
Sec. 57. The part of highway M-32 between Ripley boulevard and Bagley street in the city of Alpena shall be known as the "Veterans' Memorial Highway".
Sec. 58. Highway M-109 located in Leelanau county shall be known as the "D. H. Day Highway".
Sec. 59. The portion of highway I-69 beginning at exit 105 in Shiawasee county and extending east to exit 135 in Genesee county shall be known as the "Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway".
Sec. 60. The overpass located at the intersection of highway I-75 and highway M-57 in Genesee county shall be known as the "Bernie Borden Memorial Overpass".
Sec. 61. Highway M-120 in Muskegon county beginning at the intersection of highway M-120, Lake avenue and Whitehall road, and extending south for 1 mile shall be known as the "Veteran's Memorial Causeway".
Sec. 62. The portion of highway I-94 lying within Macomb and St. Clair counties shall be known as the "James G. O'Hara Freeway".
Sec. 63. The portion of highway business route US-27 beginning at Polk road in Emerson township in Gratiot county, continuing south through the city of Ithaca to Center road, and continuing east to the intersection of highway business route US-27 and US-27 in Emerson township in Gratiot county shall be named the "Veteran's Memorial Highway".
