                                                                                 A bill to designate Police Officers Memorial Day in the                           

                                                                                

    state of Michigan.                                                          

                                                                                

    THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:                                  

                                                                                

1       Sec. 1.  In recognition of the men and women who have lost                  

                                                                                

2   their lives [in the line of duty] while serving as law enforcement officers in the                                                                             

                                                                                

3   state of Michigan, May 15 of each year shall be known as "Police            

                                                                                

4   Officers Memorial Day".                                                     

                                                                                

5       Sec. 2.  On this day, all flags at public buildings shall be                

                                                                                

6   lowered to half staff in honor and appreciation of fallen law               

                                                                                

7   enforcement officers.  Each community throughout the state is               

                                                                                

8   encouraged to conduct a memorial ceremony, and the state's                  

                                                                                

9   citizens are encouraged to pause and reflect on the dedicated               

                                                                                

10  professionals who bravely chose to accept personal risk and made            

                                                                                

11  the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and defending the                   

                                                                                

12  public.
