A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
by amending section 622 (MCL 257.622), as amended by 1991 PA
168.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 622. The driver of a motor vehicle involved in an
2 accident that injures or kills any person, or that damages
3 property to an apparent
extent totaling $400.00 $1,000.00 or
4 more, shall immediately report that accident at the nearest or
5 most convenient police station, or to the nearest or most
6 convenient police officer. The officer receiving the report, or
7 his or her commanding officer, shall immediately forward each
8 report to the director of the department of state police on forms
9 prescribed by the director of the department of state police.
10 The forms shall be completed in full by the investigating
1 officer. The director of the department of state police shall
2 analyze each report relative to the cause of the reported
3 accident and shall prepare information compiled from reports
4 filed under this section for public use. A copy of the report
5 under this section and copies of reports required under section
6 621 shall be retained for at least 3 years at the local police
7 department, sheriff's department, or local state police post
8 making the report.
