A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
by amending section 2 (MCL 257.2), as amended by 1997 PA 8.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 2.
"Authorized emergency vehicle" means either any 1
2 of the following:
3 (a) Vehicles of the fire department, police vehicles,
4 ambulances, or privately owned motor vehicles of volunteer or
5 paid fire fighters if authorized by the chief of an organized
6 fire department, or privately owned motor vehicles of volunteer
7 or paid members of a life support agency licensed by the
8 department of consumer and industry services if authorized by the
9 life support agency.
10 (b) For purposes of section 698(5)(c) during an emergency, a
11 vehicle owned and operated by a federally recognized nonprofit
1 charitable organization that is used exclusively for assistance
2 during that emergency.
3 (c) For purposes of section 653a, a tow truck or wrecker
4 giving a visual signal by means of a flashing, rotating, or
5 oscillating red light is an authorized emergency vehicle if it is
6 at the scene of an emergency at the request or direction of a law
7 enforcement or police agency.
