            House Resolution No. 255.

            A resolution proclaiming Sunday, May 23, 2004, as NAMI Walks Day in the state of Michigan.

            Whereas, Every journey begins with that first step, the state of Michigan will take a step in the right direction in regards to our citizens mental health. In May 2004, thousands of concerned citizens in more than 35 communities across the nation will join NAMI, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in their Campaign for the Mind of America and walk together to raise money and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness.  The state of Michigan will support their efforts on Sunday, May, 23, 2004, on Belle Isle in Detroit for NAMI Walks Day; and

            Whereas, NAMI's Campaign for the Mind of America promotes investment in recovery and to prevent the abandonment of yet another generation of Americans with mental illnesses to neglect and hopelessness; and

            Whereas, NAMI's Campaign for the Mind of America highlights the need to build a comprehensive, efficient system to screen, evaluate, diagnose and treat mental illnesses at every stage of life;it, now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body proclaim May 23, 2004, NAMI Walks Day in Michigan.  This promotes support and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness, by taking the first step by beginning with the state of Michigan recognizing Sunday, May, 23, 2004, on Belle Isle in Detroit as NAMI Walks Day.
