House Resolution No. 225.
A resolution commemorating Governor William G. Milliken on the celebration of his 82nd birthday on March 26, 2004.
Whereas, William G. Milliken was on born March 26, 1922, in Traverse City, Michigan; and
Whereas, He served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, when his plane was shot down and he was wounded, earning the him Purple Heart; and
Whereas, Upon his return from the service, he managed the family business until his election as a state senator in 1961, where he served until his election for lieutenant governor in 1965; and
Whereas, Upon assuming the governorship, after the resignation of Governor Romney to join President Nixon’s cabinet, Milliken began his service as the longest serving governor in Michigan history, from 1965-1982; and
Whereas, He is considered, by many, to be a man of character and fighting spirit and also one of Michigan’s most effective leaders; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body commemorate Governor William G. Milliken on the celebration of his 82nd birthday on March 26, 2004; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Governor Milliken.
