Rep. John J. Gleason, from the 48th District, offered the following invocation:
"Members of this august body, brothers and sisters across the state of Michigan and Heavenly Father, Ireland is known as the land of saints and scholars. The land of St. Brendan, the navigator, St. Kevin, St. Finbar, St. Bridget. However, the most reverend and most beloved is St. Padraig or to most, Patrick. Patrick was a young man who was captured by pirates and taken to Ireland and sold as a slave. As yet a young man he escaped and returned to his native land. In his homeland he became a priest and eventually a bishop. The good Lord returned Patrick to his land of servitude Ireland. His evangelization turned Ireland from a pagan druid land to Christianity. The shamrock will forever be known as the symbol of the trinity. Because Patrick's utilization to explain these three persons, these three persons in one, the divinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Patrick inspired a race to live its culture despite it's oppression from foreigners. Hardships were exceeded by faith in their God. Scattered throughout Ireland's green rolling hills are Celtic Crosses. These well-known figures display the circle around the crosses' beam to signify the endless line or eternity. 'Tower Erin tar nesh na de na gael' (Give Ireland back to the Irish). Ireland was divided over 80 years ago due to religious differences. Today, all over the world the green is personally worn to signify strength in faith, strength in country and eternal life. The Christmas candle that led the Irish to Christmas mass long ago and may that candle today light mankind in brotherhood, spirituality and God's love. 'Slante, august go sail agat!' (Health and long life to you). In this august assembly may we never forget the obligations of reverence for others, their cultural differences, their personal needs and thoughts and the liberties to express them. We ask this all in Your holy name God, Lord on this holiest of days, St. Patrick's Day. In Your holy name we all say, Amen."

House Resolution No. 37.
A resolution honoring the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
Whereas, It is with deep appreciation of the significance of this milestone that we commend the volunteers and staff of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) as it marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of this exemplary organization. We are proud to recognize the important role that this group has played in contributing to the awareness, healthcare, patient care, and treatment of kidney disease in the state of Michigan; and
Whereas, Since its founding in the state, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has become a vital player in helping to educate people about kidney disease. One in nine adults has chronic kidney disease, and most don't know it. The success this organization has achieved is the direct result of the commitment of the people involved and their ability to communicate to the community and comfort those affected; and
Whereas, In looking back over 50 years of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan's history, it is clear it has set its course with a continuing look to the future. Marked by milestones of addressing the epidemic of chronic kidney disease caused by diabetes and high blood pressure, it has developed prevention programs such as KICK (Kids Interested in the Care of their Kidneys) and Healthy Hair Starts with a Healthy Body. It has also developed many other programs such as Peer Mentoring and R.I.S.E. (Rehabilitation Information Support and Empowerment). The path of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan can only lead to continued success; and
Whereas, We are grateful for all that the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has contributed to state of Michigan and all of its citizens. A recent example is its partnership with the Michigan Department of Community Health in creating the Strategic Action Plan for the prevention, early detection, and control of chronic kidney disease in Michigan; and
Whereas, March is National Kidney Month; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body honor the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan upon the occasion of their 50th anniversary. We salute them on this happy occasion and wish them well in the years to come; and be it further

House Resolution No. 38.
A resolution recognizing March 2005 as American Red Cross Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, The American Red Cross, founded in 1881 and guided by the principles of compassion, courage, character, and civic duty, has continually served the needs of Michigan residents as well as individuals in need world-wide; and
Whereas, The American Red Cross is uniquely chartered by the United States Congress. It provides assistance to people afflicted by local, state, national, or international disasters, as well as assistance for American Military personnel and their families; and
Whereas, The American Red Cross provides about eighty percent of the blood and blood products used by Michigan residents during medical procedures and operations. The American Red Cross is facing increased demands, thereby increasing the need for citizens to donate blood; and
Whereas, In today's new world of terrorism and threats to homeland security, the American Red Cross is urging all Americans to protect themselves through its "Together We Prepare" program, which includes five actions each citizen should take. These actions include: Make a Plan, Build a Kit, Get Trained, Volunteer, and Give Blood; now, therefore be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body recognize March 2005 as American Red Cross Month in the state of Michigan. We request that each Michigan citizen prepare themselves to respond to life threatening incidents and work to advance this organization's noble and humanitarian mission. And, accordingly, we ask all agencies of state government to support and assist the various activities of the American Red Cross, particularly by participating in blood drives throughout this year.
