A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4118 AS INTRODUCED 2-1-05
House Bill 4118 would amend the Revised School Code to require the board of a school district or a public school academy (charter school) to ensure that its athletic eligibility policies make the use of a performance-enhancing substance a violation that will affect a student's eligibility.
Under the bill, the Department of Community Health would be required to develop, periodically update, and make available to school districts, charter schools, and nonpublic schools a list of performance-enhancing substances. The department would base the list on the list of banned drugs contained in bylaw 31.2.3.1 of the bylaws of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
MCL 380.1318
FISCAL IMPACT:
The bill would have minimal fiscal impact to the state. The additional cost to the Department of Community Health would be to obtain and update the information and make it available to all school districts, public school academies, and nonpublic schools.
