A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5845 AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE 4-20-06
House Bill 5845 would amend Part 201 (Environmental Remediation) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to require the Department of Environmental Quality to issue a report on the environmental contamination caused by the release of intoxicants associated with clandestine drug labs that have been reported to the DEQ and are subject to remediation under Part 201. The report would include information on the number of releases, the status of any response activity, and the name of the entity or department that undertook the response activity. The report would be submitted to the standing committees of the Legislature with jurisdiction over natural resources and environmental issues, and would first be submitted within one year of the bill's effective date.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of preparing and distributing the required report can be absorbed within the department's annual budget. There would be no fiscal impact on local government.
