A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5966 AS INTRODUCED 4-25-06

The bill extends the Remonumentation Fee for additional ten years.  The current $4 fee is scheduled to expire on January 1, 2013, at which time the fee is reduced to $2.  The bill would extend the date to January 1, 2023.  This fee is collected by a county register of deeds for recording instruments and is deposited in the State Survey and Remonumentation Fund.  The revenue is used to re-survey Michigan property boundaries.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The additional annual revenue generated by this bill is estimated to be between $4 million and $6 million for the ten years ending January 1, 2023.
