DRIVER SAFETY COURSE INSC. DISCOUNT H.B. 5661 (S-1): FLOOR ANALYSIS

CONTENT
The bill would amend the Insurance Code to allow an automobile insurer to offer a premium discount to insureds who were at least 50 years old and successfully completed a traffic accident prevention course that met specified criteria.
An insurer could provide the discount for three years after successful completion of an initial or refresher course.


The bill would require an initial course to include at least eight hours of classroom instruction taught by an instructor certified by the entity offering the course. A refresher course would have to include at least four hours of classroom instruction taught by an instructor certified by the entity.


Additionally, upon successful completion, a course would have to provide a certificate of completion that an insured could use in applying for the premium discount.
